Do you have family members who are Catholic and yet you have never taken steps to get to know the Catholic Church or to become Catholic? Are you someone who is seeking a church and a faith tradition that makes sense to develop your relationship with God? Have you been interested in the Catholic Church for a long time? YOU are invited to find out more about what Catholics believe by participating in the Catholic Inquiry Sessions. These sessions are open to anyone who wants to know more about what it means to be Catholic. For more information on Inquiry Sessions at any time please contact Terry Humenik. We have a year around process for those interested in becoming Catholic. Whenever you are interested in learning more we will help you join the Inquiry process. Welcome!
The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (the RCIA) is the process that guides those seeking to become Catholic. contact Terry Humenik 669 8335 ext 18
You are welcome to join us in this process at any time of year in order to have a full experience of what it means to be Catholic.
The goal of this process is to allow an individual both the time and the experience to grow in her/his journey of faith until she/he is ready to be welcomed into the full life of the Catholic Church.
Some people begin by exploring the faith in the Catholic Inquiry Series. If they choose to pursue more information about becoming Catholic they continue the process of the RCIA - The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults, accompanied by practicing Catholics (the RCIA team and sponsors/godparents and parish mentors) This portion of the process includes prayer, ritual, and an expanded exploration of Scripture and Catholic teaching, learning about apostolic service and developing relationships with others in the parish community moving toward initiation into the full life of the Church, celebrated at the Easter Vigil. Each person's journey toward Baptism follows their individual timetable as guided by the Holy Spirit. Weekly sessions are included in which the scriptures and doctrines of the Church are examined and discussed. Along the way those who are considering becoming Catholic have several opportunities to discern whether or not they are willing and ready to continue in the process.
For individuals already baptized into another Christian denomination, the process can be adapted. The first step is to meet with Terry Humenik, to assess the person's knowledge and understanding of what it means to be Catholic. Our goal is to meet the person where they are in a relationship with Jesus and the church and move forward toward full communion with the Catholic church. Since each person's journey is individual we will developo an individualized plan for each one. Once they are ready they will make a profession of faith at which time they receive Confirmation and celebrate their first reception of Eucharist. Anyone who has questions about this process and journey of faith may contact Terry Humenik at 669 8335 ext 18
Individuals interested in participating in the RCIA team, those who know someone else who may be interested, or anyone wanting information about the process may contact any member of the RCIA team. (Terry Humenik, Deacon Ted Heutsche and Rob Strouse). The entire parish community is called to evangelize and to share the message of the Gospels in their own Baptism. There is a place for everyone as part of the RCIA team as we welcome others into the Catholic Church.
All members of the parish are on a lifelong journey of faith and we accompany those who wish to learn more about the Catholic faith. We all continue to learn and grow spiritually as disciples of Jesus Christ throughout our lives. We invite you to join us on the journey.
Confirmation for adults (18 years and older)
If you are an adult who did not receive the sacrament of Confirmation as a youth you can still receive this special sacrament of the indwelling of the Holy Spirit with her special gifts and graces now. There will be a short set of sessions to prepare for the reception of the sacrament at the Pentecost or another suitable time of the year.
